Making New Friends
Sarah is nervous but excited. Today is her first day at a new school. She moved to this city last week with her family.

Sarah walks into the classroom. The teacher, Ms. Johnson, smiles and says, "Welcome, Sarah! Please sit next to Emma." Emma has curly brown hair and a big smile.
"Hi, I'm Emma," she says. "What's your name?"
"I'm Sarah," she answers quietly. "Nice to meet you."
During math class, Emma helps Sarah with the problems. Sarah is good at math, but the book is different from her old school. Emma is very friendly and patient.
At lunch time, they go to the cafeteria together. Emma introduces Sarah to her friends: Tom, Lisa, and Mike. They eat sandwiches and talk about their favorite movies.
"Do you like sports?" asks Tom.
"Yes, I love swimming and basketball," Sarah says.
"Great! We play basketball every day after school," says Lisa. "You can join us!"
After lunch, they have art class. Sarah and Emma draw pictures of animals. Sarah draws a cat, and Emma draws a dog. Their teacher says the pictures are very good.
During break time, they go to the playground. The children play games and run around. Sarah feels much better now. She is not nervous anymore.
At the end of the day, Emma gives Sarah her phone number. "Call me tonight! We can do our homework together," she says.
Sarah walks home with a big smile. She was worried about making friends, but now she has many new friends. Her first day at the new school was wonderful.
Sarah calls her grandmother that evening. "Grandma, I made lots of friends today! They are very nice and friendly," she says happily.
